CENTERVILLE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Over the weekend, officials honored a fallen World War One soldier with a bridge dedication in Centerville. U.S. Army Private Frank J. Holcombe, who enlisted in the National Guard in 1917 and was killed in action the following year in France, was the first Centerville soldier to die in the war. The Department of Veterans Affairs has now named the South Dakota Highway 19A bridge over the Vermillion River in his memory. A dedication ceremony was held Saturday at The American Legion Post in Centerville.
