ELLSWORTH, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Ellsworth Air Force Base is stepping up preparations to host the B-21 Raider, the nation’s next-generation stealth bomber. The multi-billion-dollar project includes more than 30 upgrades, from runway reconstruction to high-security hangars. Senator Mike Rounds says B-1 bombers temporarily relocated to North Dakota could return to Ellsworth by November. While the exact arrival date for the B-21 remains classified, Rounds says the cutting-edge aircraft could begin arriving as early as 2026 or 2027, with the first squadrons and pilots set to train in South Dakota.
