An Iowa man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for violating probation for a second time. 24-year old James Heginger of Mason City was on probation for charges of fourth-degree rape and possession, manufacturing, or distribution of child pornography. Heginger bribed a person who was of the age of consent but who suffered from developmental issues with cigarettes, money, and alcohol in exchange for sexual favors. Heginger served three years in the Iowa State Penitentiary prior to the latest probation violation. In sentencing Heginger, Judge Chris Giles called him an opportunistic predator who preyed on younger victims and victims with questionable ability to consent. Giles said Heginger is a danger to society. He was also sentenced to a 15-year suspended sentence to run consecutively to the 10-year sentence.
