MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Plans to dredge Lake Mitchell are moving forward, with work expected to begin in 2026. Barr Engineering updated the Mitchell City Council on Monday, outlining a phased project that starts with a lake drawdown this fall, followed by dredging and spillway reconstruction. Permits from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are still pending, and cultural resource studies are required to protect potential Native American artifacts. A plan will also be in place for handling any artifacts discovered during the project. For more Government stories from MitchellNow.com, Click Here.
