MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — The 2026 Leadership Mitchell class will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for a new wrap on a downtown traffic box Thursday afternoon.

The class project is a way for this year’s group to give back to the community as it celebrates graduation and looks to make a positive impact on the city. The box is located at the corner of 7th Avenue and Main Street. The art wrap pays homage to historic Mitchell and the Corn Palace. The group says the work will have a permanent effect on one of the busiest intersections in the city, while still celebrating what makes Mitchell unique.

The ceremony is slated for 3:00 p.m. Community members, guests, local leaders, and project partners are all welcome to the event.

Leadership Mitchell is run by the Mitchell Area Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee to help develop the next generation of leaders. The annual program gives those enrolled a crash course on the city’s biggest issues and helps to introduce them to the resources available to make positive change. It consists of eight all-day programs, one per month from September to May. The group does not meet in December around the holiday season.
