Mitchell Area Community Theater Responds After City Council Denies 2026 Funding Request

MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) The Mitchell Area Community Theater is speaking out after the city council denied its request for 2026 subsidy funding. According to the Daily Republic, ACT board president Cat Erickson told council members this week that staff and board turnover delayed a major roof replacement at the Pepsi-Cola Theatre — the reason cited for the funding denial. ACT requested more than $78,000 but received no allocation after initially being considered for $29,750. Erickson said the roof has been repaired, not replaced, and the group is now fundraising to cover costs while continuing to make building and accessibility improvements.
