UPDATE (7:52 a.m. on July 15, 2026): Mitchell has postponed all chip sealing for Wednesday. City Secretary Pam Punt emailed Wednesday morning saying crews could not arrange for a truck to bring in the liquid asphalt for the day’s jobs. The city promises to send an update when they know when work can begin again.

UPDATE (11:45 a.m. on July 14, 2026): The City of Mitchell has released the chip sealing projects for Wednesday. They include:

  • 900-1000 blocks of W. 4th Avenue
  • 400-500 blocks of W. 5th Avenue
  • 300 block of S. Isadore Street
  • 400-1100 blocks of W. 3rd Avenue
  • 100 block of S. Rowley Street
  • East side of the police parking lot

Homeowners affected on Wednesday will also have to pull their cars off the street by 7 a.m. Also, turn off sprinkler systems and remove sump pump hoses from around the drains.

MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — Chip sealing that was originally scheduled for Monday in Mitchell has been pushed back to Tuesday instead.

Crews will be working on the 900 to 1500 blocks of Quince Avenue, the 1300 and 1400 blocks of W. Norway Street, the 700 block of Mitchell Boulevard, the 1300 and 1400 blocks of Williams Avenue, the 100 block of W. Douglas Avenue, and the 300 block of Fir Avenue.

Homeowners on the affected roads should avoid parking on the street until the project is completed. They are also being asked by the city to turn off their automatic sprinkler systems and remove sump pump hoses from the gutter.
