MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) A proposed 25-acre development near Lake Mitchell could break ground this fall, if the City Council approves its final rezoning at their meeting tonight. Developer Justin Thiesse’s plan includes housing, a senior living center, daycare, a coffee shop, and more. While the council passed the first reading of the zoning change in a 6-2 vote, some members expressed concerns about the project’s size and scope. The Mitchell Republic reports that supporters argue the project will boost housing options, job creation, and tax revenue. Critics, including nearby property owners, have raised concerns about transparency and potential overdevelopment. If approved, the first phase would include the senior living center. Thiesse warns rejection could send a message that Mitchell isn’t open for growth. For more Government stories from MitchellNow.com, Click Here.
