MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Mitchell city leaders want to build a second fire station on the north side of town to cut response times and lower insurance costs. The $2.5 million project would sit near the old water treatment plant on Highway 37. If approved, design work starts in 2026, with the station opening in 2027. According to the Mitchell Republic, the City Administrator says the new spot will help firefighters reach the north side faster, and save residents money on insurance. Four firefighters would be based at the new station, sharing equipment with the current Public Safety building.
