Moped Crash Prompts Traffic Safety Review in Mitchell

MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Officials have released new details about a July 2nd crash that left an 18 year old moped driver with life-threatening injuries. The crash happened around 1 p.m. at Sixth Avenue and Winsor Street, when a Mitchell man driving a Jeep Compass failed to yield and hit the moped. The teen, who wasn’t wearing a helmet, was seriously hurt. The Mitchell Republic reports that the crash sparked a discussion at the July 7th City Council meeting, where leaders proposed adding stop signs to slow down traffic. Traffic data is being reviewed, and a nearby street closure is planned near the old Mitchell High School. The crash remains under investigation.
