MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — The South Dakota Department of Social Services (DSS) will issue the remainder of November Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits this week, following processing work that began over the weekend.

According to DSS, benefits will be loaded overnight and are expected to be available on Tuesday for roughly 37,000 SNAP-eligible households across the state.

About $8 million in partial benefits were issued last week in accordance with guidance from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service, which oversees SNAP. DSS will now distribute the remaining funds after the federal shutdown concluded. The two payments together will total the full November benefit amount each household qualifies for.

DSS said December SNAP benefits remain on schedule and are set to be issued on Dec. 10.

Recipients can check their benefit balances through the SNAP app or online portal. DSS will post any updates on its website at dss.sd.gov and through its official social media channels.
