PIERRE, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) South Dakota lawmakers approved a $650 million prison in Sioux Falls, but State Rep. Mike Derby says the state should study North Dakota’s system. According to AP, he said North Dakota has about half as many inmates, spending more on rehabilitation and reentry, while South Dakota’s tougher sentencing laws keep people locked up longer.
