South Dakota State Prison Offender Shane Osterkamp Dies at Mike Durfee State Prison

MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — State prison offender Shane Osterkamp, 44, has died, according to information released by the South Dakota Department of Corrections.

Osterkamp passed away on Nov. 14 in a comfort care setting at the Mike Durfee State Prison in Springfield. At the time of his death, Osterkamp was serving sentences from Hughes County and Sully County. Additional details surrounding his medical condition or the circumstances of his death were not immediately released.

The Department of Corrections typically conducts an internal review following the death of an offender in custody.
