MITCHELL, SD (Mitchell Now) — U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune said the United States should use its “economic leverage” to lessen Venezuela’s dependence on China and Russia and to ensure Venezuelan energy production benefits the Venezuelan people.

Thune made the comments during an appearance on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom,” arguing that China and Russia are “stealing Venezuelan oil” and that the administration’s approach could reduce “malign influence” in the region. Republican Leader+1

Thune also praised the Trump administration’s recent U.S. military operation in Venezuela that resulted in the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, who was then brought to the United States to face federal charges, according to multiple news reports.
